there is an intriguing genre of games that base their graphics around ascii.

web & time based

• candybox2 - the first game i’ve played of this type - you slowly gain candy by the second. is that all there is? or is there more? (spoiler: there is)
• a dark room - you start in a dark room, with the only ability to stoke the fire.

RPG

• caves of qud - so incredibly creative and tons of RNG. its very difficult with a steep learning curve.
• moonring - a somewhat more recent release - amazingly released for free on steam. the graphics have a psychadelic vibe to them while they also stay simple. i think more literally, the graphics are not exactly ascii. however it is reminiscent of ascii-based games to the extent that its worth listing here - the spirit is there in full force.
